Traveling with the iPhone | Concert Vault
If you’re like me, you gotta have tunes when you travel. Obviously, the iPhone is ideal for this given you have access to songs from your iTunes library on it. But sometimes that’s not enough, you know? You need more. And there’s no shortage of great music apps to choose from. For discovering new music and creating contextual playlists there’s really none better than Pandora. That’s like the most popular app in the iTunes store though, so what good would suggesting that serve? No, I’m here to step off the reservation a little bit.
And slightly off the main road, you’ll find Concert Vault by the good people at Wolfgang’s Vault. It’s exactly what it sounds like - an app for streaming live shows. Right now I’m jamming out to a Warren Zevon show from 1980. A particularly killer “Johnny Strikes Up the Band,” thank you. That’s the beauty of Concert Vault: the selection. Concert Vault features an amazing catalog of live concerts going way back. There’s everything from jazz jams from Newport in the Sixties to Billy Idol thrashing clubs in the early 80s. The quality is remarkably good, too.
The app delivers a great user experience, as well. Finding shows of interest is really easy. You can “favorite” whole shows to come back to later or add individual songs to playlists. You’re not tied to the app either. You can stream shows from the Wolfgang’s Vault website as well. The app and your account at Wolfgang’s Vault sync seamlessly, meaning all of your playlists and favorites are available in each spot.
If you love live music, this is a must-have app for the iPhone. So what are you waiting for? Commence rocking.
