Abandoned Places: Ghosts of Vacations Past | Concierge.com
“What happens when all the guests disappear, when the swimming pools dry up, when planes get grounded for good? What ghosts remain when rust creeps in and vines choke out the mirth of vacations past? Around the globe sit the ruins of abandoned hotels, amusement parks, train tunnels, museums, and resorts. In the spirit of Halloween, we’re taking you to these tourism graveyards, reclaimed by nature and perhaps even haunted.” -Conde Nast Traveler

The Atlas of Remote Islands is kicking around our office and it’s absolutely magical. Each of the 50 beautiful maps faces a story about the depicted island, like this one for Rapa Iti:
In a small town in the foothills of the Vosges, a six-year-old boy is visited by dreams in which he is taught a completely unknown language. Little Marc Liblin soon speaks this language fluently without knowing where it comes from or whether it even really exists. … In a bar in Rennes, Marc Liblin gives a solo performance, holding a monologue in front of a group of Tunisians. The barkeeper, a former navy man, interrupts and says he has heard this tongue before, on one of the most remote Polynesian islands.
The ending of the story, which we won’t spoil, is even more remarkable than all this.

Traveler on Tumblr | Conde Nast Traveler
Conde Nast has been an early adopter among publishers of the Tumblr platform as a supplement to their magazine properties. The latest is Traveler on Tumblr - an offshoot of the publisher’s flagship travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler. Traveler on Tumblr highlights both the online magazine’s editorial content (like this great breakdown that answers the question: Is jetBlue’s All You Can Jet Pass Worth it?) as well as other interesting travel-related articles and insights from around the web and on Tumblr. If you’re on Tumblr and into travel, it’s a must follow.
